In 2006, Coca Cola approached Emeco with a proposal.
Their brand new recycling plant in South Carolina was processing thousands of plastic bottles a day and they were looking for ways to show the value of recycled plastic. Coca Cola had the ingenious idea of producing a chair, made entirely from rPET recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (recycled plastic bottles to you and me).
The design is based on the classic Navy Chair and is made from a combination of 60% PET, a special combination of pigment and glass fiber for strength. In total, 111 Coca Cola bottles are used in the making of one chair, therefore giving the chair the name 111 Navy Chair™.
